Memorial Day Parade
Memorial day weekend is shaping up to be very busy with Knights activities. On Saturday 5/26 at 9:00 am there is a call for volunteers to set up for the parish picnic. That afternoon is the deceased members Mass (4:30 IC Church) followed by a dinner. Sunday is Fr. Marc’s farewell Mass at 11:00 followed by the parish picnic.
But last and by no means least is the Memorial Day Parade on Monday (weather permitting).
Those who are marching should wear the white or blue Council 81 polo shirts and ball caps If you don’t have a shirt or ball cap send an email to Mike Wells (FinancialSecretary@kofcmarlboro.org) and give him your shirt size and he will order it. Do this asap so we get it in time.
For those that have not participated in past years, we meet at the Legion Hall on Maple Street at 9:30 am. We march to the first monument at the end of Main and East Main. A wreath is laid, a prayer is said, a rifle volley is fired, and taps is played, and then on to the next monument in front of City hall. There are five stops in all. We end at the Civil war monument at the head of Main Street – near the Library.
For those who have not had prior military service, don’t let the word “march” scare you away. We aren’t going to go all Marine corps drill instructor on you. When I say “march” its more like a casual stroll. If you are out of step, who cares. What’s important is that you are there.
Patriotism is the watchword of our 4th degree, and it is fitting we are present to honor those who made the supreme sacrifice.
If you have children or grandchildren bring them along to the parade. They will get a kick out of seeing dad or grand dad march in a parade.
As it get closer to parade day I’ll send out another announcement.
