Grand Knight’s Blog July 2019
1. Officer’s Meeting.
We will hold a brief meeting for Officers only on July 9, 2019 at 7:30 at Mike Tremblay’s office, 277 Main St., Marlborough, second floor. It’s upstairs over the Flying Dreams Brew Pub so we may have time for a little extracurricular activity if we finish early. The simple one-item agenda will be to discuss Programming for the upcoming Fraternal Year.
The Ad Hoc Committee on Programs (Steve Strella, Andy Tivnan and Rich Pulice) have been working on this and are invited to attend and reveal their top picks.
I would like to nail down just four programs we can run annually with reasonable effort and cost which will enhance our visibility, provide charitable service, and hopefully recruit a new member or two. We have lots of ideas and support from Supreme Headquarters in the Faith in Action program, so I invite everybody to review the simple 8-page Faith in Action guide booklet (click here to download) to see if you have any interest in participating in any of these programs. Ideally, we should run one event from each of the four categories: Faith, Life, Community and Family. They come with all kinds of printed promotional material, and goodies to help run the programs like sign up sheets and sample invitation letters. No need for us to re-invent the wheel! See some of the promotional kits available here. Those of you with kids in local sports might like to reach out to youth sports leagues or coaches to arrange a “Free Throw Competition” or “Soccer Challenge.” I’m hoping somebody would like to help me arrange a “Blue Mass” for Police, Fire and EMT’s. If you have an interest on one of the events described below, check out the booklet for more information and please come to the meeting (even if you are not an officer) or email me if you can’t attend but would like to chair, co-chair or just help out with one particular event. We’re trying to learn what events our members are interested in running, since we should perform best doing something we like. So pipe up if you want to promote one particular event.
2. Adolescent Psych Ward Picnic
This event will be on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, 309 Belmont St., Worcester. We usually carpool from Rich Kearns’ house around 11:30 a.m. and we are back around 2:30. We simply serve pizza, subs, snacks, and ice cream for a couple hours. It is a very fulfilling event to participate in. These kids have little companionship and are very grateful for our company for a few hours. If you can participate, Sign up Here and email Rich Kearns (membershipdirector@kofcmarlboro.org) early if you weren’t at the Christmas party in December because you’ll have to sign a CORI form .
3. Faith in Action Positions Open.
In conjunction with the Faith in Action program model, he have five positions open:
- Program Director: Oversees the four individual program directors below, and coordinates and helps the individual program chairmen as needed.
- Faith Director: organizes the Faith Program
- Community Director: organizes the Community Program
- Family Director: organizes the Family Program
- Life Director: organizes the Life Program
These are not burdensome jobs. Basically, each director will chair one event during the year. Here are some of the program event ideas in the four categories:

4. Last Word.
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. I’ll see the officers next Tuesday, and the rest of you in September! In the meantime, let me know if you would like to see us run a particular program and if you can help out.
Vivat Jesus
