2024 Labor Day Parade
And by “march” we mean “stroll.” The Parade route is 1.7 miles long. Piece of cake!
Sign up here if you plan to march.
Here are the details:
When: | Labor Day! Monday, September 2nd, 2024. |
Uniform: | Dress is white KofC Polo shirt (navy if you don’t have white), khaki or navy shorts or pants, and KofC baseball cap. |
Step off time: | The Parade steps off at 12:00 noon from the intersection of Lincoln and Pleasant Streets. |
Assembly time: | You should be in the assembly area preferably by 11:00 but no later than 11:30 a.m. Remember, roads will be closed, streets blocked off, utter chaos prevails, and you may have to park on a side street and walk to the assembly point. |
Assembly location: | Our assembly area has not yet been officially announced yet, but our sources tell us we will be across the street from the Collins-Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Lincoln Street. Look for the Immaculate Conception School float, we are next to them. If you don’t find us there, report to the “Step Off” site at the corner of Lincoln Street and Pleasant Street and look for a Parade Marshal – an official looking person likely wearing an optic vest and carrying a clipboard – and they will tell you where to go.
You can dial in “90 Pleasant Street” into your GPS to find the Step Off intersection. You can probably get dropped off around Pleasant and Elm and have a short walk — but do not expect to find a parking space anywhere nearby. |
Vehicles: | Mike Gibson will drive our one alotted vehicle with water bottles and snacks. |
Two ways to get there: | (1) Get dropped off or park near the American Legion Building at 90 Maple Street and take a shuttle bus to the starting line. Shuttles run from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 from in front of the American Legion; or
(2) Get dropped off anywhere near French Hill and walk to the Parade Assembly Area near the intersection of Lincoln and Pleasant Streets. Official-looking Parade Marshals with clipboards can point you to our specific assembly location. |
After Parade Routine: | The American Legion on Maple Street has sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, beer and cold drinks. It’s not a bad spot to watch the parade for your family either. Have them bring a lawn chair. |
Rain Date: | Are you joking? There is only one Labor Day! And this is Marlborough. It’s a rain or shine event. |
What to bring: | Travel light. You’re carrying what you bring. Lather up with sunscreen when you park or get dropped off. Sun glasses should be all you need. We will have snacks, water bottles and sun screen in the official car. |
Alert Notice: | This year the route is still is doubt. We think it will go down Main Street as in years past; but last year it detoured right after the Library onto Granger Blvd., and did not go down Main Street past City Hall. Either way, it ends up at the American Legion Hall. Stay together and we won’t get lost. |
Plan ahead for street closures, no places to park, and utter confusion.
